“Everybody wants true love, It’s out there if you look hard enough”
Honne
As you know from previous posts we were in the process of trying to find a second song to include in out opening title sequence. And as Honne says in their song, “It’s there if you look hard enough”. After looking long and hard I believe we have found the song we will be using to end our title sequence.
I knew that we wanted a song that had a pop feel, something that was upbeat to show the change in the main character’s emotions after she makes the phone call to her friend. Originally I wanted the song to be something empowering and almost defiant because the main character is mad at the situation she has been put in by her friend.
So as I began looking for a song like this I first turned to the pop genre on my apple music app. The songs on this app had already been purchased by me so I knew they would be easier to work with when it came to uploading them to our editing software later. Unfortunately I did not find any good songs here.
From there I then turned once again to Spotify and I began listening to their “Pop Radio”. Again I found nothing, many of the songs were too popular to work effectively in our title sequence. As I stated before I want the songs included in our film to not be too well known, that way viewers remain focused on the images on screen.
It then occurred to me that it would be during this song that we would reveal the title of the movie for the first time. And as I have mentioned before, my favorite aspect of movie soundtracks is when they are edited to match exactly what is occurring on screen. I wanted whatever song we chose to include the title of out movie in its lyrics.
This is when I typed the phrase “Day One” into Spotify to try and find upbeat pop songs that included the phrase, and I found just that.
The song Day 1 was released by Honne an “english electronic music duo” in March of 2018. The band, which consists of James Hatcher, producer, and Andy Clutterbuck, singer and producer, is known for creating music in the genres of synth pop, contemporary R&B, dance pop, sophisti-pop, and soul.
The main chorus of the song includes the phrase “You will always be my Day One”. This to me means that no matter where you go in life and who you meet you will always have that one person in your life that made a special impact on you. This is why I believe this song is a perfect way to introduce a movie about the journey of two friends who learn to grow while apart from one another, learning to recognize their importance in each others lives.
